March 9, 2013: A visit by 18 of our parishioners to the Monastery of Holy Assumption in Calistoga. An informative day trip to see the OCA Women's monastery that is so close to us. Mother Melania has been the retreat speaker for several of the Antiochian women's retreats and is the author of several children's books. The Monastery Trip was scheduled as a day trip only, although there was the optional choice of an overnight trip: going up Friday night and spending the night in a nearby hotel for those interested in that. It is our goal to reevaluate and refocus. Based on reviewing the Antiochian Women Membership Handbook we realize that over the years Ss Peter & Paul’s Women’s group has become distracted and bogged down by the busyness of our assumed responsibilities and as a result has strayed from the mandated mission of the Antiochian Archdiocese.
As encouraged by Metropolitan Philip’s vision and Archbishop Joseph’s message in the handbook we would like to redirect our group towards spiritual growth, charitable acts and fellowship and away from the daily organization of our parish’s social life. Our efforts are to reevaluate, prioritize and redirect our efforts accordingly. Here is our Mission Statement. The purposes of the Antiochian Women are:
- To develop among women throughout the Antiochian Archdiocese a spirit of Christian leadership, awareness and commitment as taught in the Holy Orthodox Church.
- To foster among women throughout the Antiochian Archdiocese a genuine expression of love and service through works of charity, and
- To instill among women throughout the Antiochian Archdiocese and the community at large a sense of fellowship and a deeper understanding of the heritage and traditions of the Antiochian Archdiocese and the Orthodox Church.
One of our goals is to truly include every woman in our parish as we are all called to be members by our personal acceptance of the charge “take heed to the ministry which you have received in the Lord, that you may fulfill it” (Col 4:17).
