2017 Mission Team Opportunities - Kenya (Youth) and Indonesia (Teaching)

All those at the Orthodox Christian Mission Center pray you have a blessed Thanksgiving! May the Lord grant you joy this holiday season.

OCMC needs volunteers for the following 2017 short term mission teams:

There is a team heading to Kenya March 29 – April 10 that will participate in a Teen & Youth Mentorship Program at the St. Clement Orthodox School, which is close to the Orthodox seminary in Nairobi. The program will include children, teens and youth from the surrounding area and will seek to build self confidence and self awareness. The program will use indoor and outdoor activities to teach life skills and encourage positivity about life, as many of the youth come from destitute backgrounds. Participants should be well-grounded in the basic teachings of the Church and prepared to offer basic Orthodox catechism and religious education. Social workers, peer counselors, career advisers and spiritual leaders are needed.

A teaching team will travel to Indonesia May 22 – June 10 and will teach at the schools run by the Orthodox Church in Medan. Team members will teach catechism and the uniqueness of the Orthodox Faith to individuals who live in a region where Islam is the main religion. The team will especially focus on teaching about how Orthodoxy is a way of life meant to encompass every facet of life. The team will also help teach English at the St. Paul Theological School. Participants should be well-grounded in the basic teachings of the Church with a sound understanding of the Orthodox Faith and the ability to teach catechism. English language teachers have also been requested.

Commemoration of the Blind Man (May 21)

Passing by, O Lord, Thou didst find a man blind from birth. The Disciples, in surprise, asked Thee, Teacher, who did sin, this man or his parents that he was born blind? But Thou, O Savior, answered them, saying, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him. I must work the works of Him that sent Me, which none else can work. And as Thou said that, Thou didst spit on the ground, and make clay thereof, and anoint his eyes. And Thou didst say unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam. And when he washed, he began to shout unto Thee, Lord, I believe. And he worshiped Thee. Wherefore, we too, cry out to Thee, have mercy upon us. (First Vesperal Doxasticon in Tone 5)
