2012-2014 Group Events

March 9, 2013:  A visit by 18 of our parishioners to the Monastery of Holy Assumption in Calistoga.  An informative day trip to see the OCA Women's monastery that is so close to us.  Mother Melania has been the retreat speaker for several of the Antiochian women's retreats and is the author of several children's books.  The Monastery Trip was scheduled as a day trip only, although there was the optional choice of  an overnight trip: going up Friday night and spending the night in a nearby hotel for those interested in that.  For more information on the Monastery:

May 18, 2013: Filoli Gardens & Estate docent-led walking tour by 8 women, it was a beautiful day to see the historic mansion and enjoy the incredible gardens.

June 13, 2013:  Girl's Night Out at the movies in Scotts Valley.

September 26, 2013:  Fall kick-off with Pizza Night at Mama Mia's in Felton. A fun evening with 20+ women attending.

2012-2014 Women's Group Goal and Focus

It is our goal to reevaluate and refocus. Based on reviewing the Antiochian Women Membership Handbook we realize that over the years Ss Peter & Paul’s Women’s group has become distracted and bogged down by the busyness of our assumed responsibilities and as a result has strayed from the mandated mission of the Antiochian Archdiocese.
As encouraged by Metropolitan Philip’s vision and Archbishop Joseph’s message in the handbook we would like to redirect our group towards spiritual growth, charitable acts and fellowship and away from the daily organization of our parish’s social life.  Our efforts are to reevaluate, prioritize and redirect our efforts accordingly.   Here is our Mission StatementThe purposes of the Antiochian Women are:

  1. To develop among women throughout the Antiochian Archdiocese a spirit of Christian leadership, awareness and commitment as taught in the Holy Orthodox Church.
  2. To foster among women throughout the Antiochian Archdiocese a genuine expression of love and service through works of charity, and
  3. To instill among women throughout the Antiochian Archdiocese and the community at large a sense of fellowship and a deeper understanding of the heritage and traditions of the Antiochian Archdiocese and the Orthodox Church.

One of our goals is to truly include every woman in our parish as we are all called to be members by our personal acceptance of the charge “take heed to the ministry which you have received in the Lord, that you may fulfill it” (Col 4:17).

First Sunday of Great Lent: Sunday of Orthodoxy (February 25)

Thy pure image do we venerate, O good One, asking forgiveness of our sins, O Christ our God; for by Thine own will Thou didst ascend the Cross in Thy body, to save Thy creatures from the bondage of the enemy. Thou hast verily filled all with joy, since Thou didst come, O our Savior, to save the world. (Apolytikion in Tone 2)

"It is through the virtue of humility that we attain spiritual gifts. Humility is the acknowledgement that God has saved us, forgiven us and desires that we should do the same. God does not force us to do so, we must be willing. If we are not willing to be humble, the world will humiliate us. The humble person cannot be humiliated, for humiliation is nothing but a blow to our pride. The one who has no pride escapes such suffering." -- His Eminence, Metropolitan JOSEPH
